Abia Police Arrest Four Suspected Criminals, Recover Firearms and Other Weapons.

The Abia State Police Command has apprehended four suspected criminals, including three alleged cultists, during separate operations across the state.

The command in a statement endorsed by its spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed that firearms, ammunition and other dangerous items were recovered from the suspects.

According to the release, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Olokoro, acted on credible intelligence on July 7, 2026, following reports that about 50 suspected criminals had assembled around the Ubakala axis for cult-related activities.

The operatives swiftly stormed the location, leading to the arrest of Obioma Nmeribe, 22; Emmanuel Lekwechi, 25; and Ikemefulla ThankGod Amadi, 25.

Items recovered from the suspects include one Beretta pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, one locally made pistol, two live cartridges, one live round of ammunition, two black berets, one cutlass and one digger.

In a separate operation conducted on July 6, 2026, the Police, working jointly with sister security agencies under Operation Crush, arrested Bright Nnabugu, 31, of Umuobasi in Ugwunagbor Local Government Area.

Recovered from them include: one locally made single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a cutter and high-tension wire allegedly linked to the vandalism and theft of government property.

The command assured that investigations into both cases are ongoing, adding that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
