Obi, Dickson, Stakeholders Meet Over Party Primaries

In order to resolve the complaints arising from the party’s recently concluded primaries, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on Friday met with the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to reports, the meeting, which lasted about three hours, largely discussed the growing concerns rising from internal disagreements and fallout from the primaries.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page shortly after the gathering, Senator Dickson disclosed that the meeting provided an opportunity for party leaders to review recent developments within the NDC and address concerns raised by members.

“I just received my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, CON, our presidential candidate, who, together with some distinguished leaders of our party, held a closed-door meeting which lasted about three hours.

“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues,” the former Bayelsa Governor pointed out.

According to him, both leaders remained united in their commitment to securing victory for the NDC and dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in 2027.

He assured that a framework has been agreed upon to manage such concerns moving forward, acknowledging that disagreements had emerged within the party.

“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, that is, winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government.

“However, a few issues have arisen, and we have agreed on how to handle them moving forward,” he wrote.

Senator Dickson therefore enjoined party members to put aside internal disputes and concentrate on strengthening the party.

He expressed confidence that continuous consultations among party leaders and stakeholders would help strengthen unity and cohesion within the young popular party.

“Both His Excellency Peter Obi and I, as well as other leaders and stakeholders of our party, will continue to consult and engage with one another to address and resolve concerns, strengthen the unity and cohesion of our party, and ensure that we remain focused on our shared mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for all,” Dickson assured.
