It was a moment of joy and celebration at the Umunneochi Local Government Headquarters, Nkwoagu, as the Mayor of Umunneochi LGA, Chief Sunny Afurobi, received Amuda Logu Football Club, winners of the 2026 Agunecheibe Football Tournament sponsored by the Member Representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah.
Addressing the jubilant players and officials of the club, Mayor Afurobi congratulated Logu FC on their hard-fought victory in the tournament and described the feat as an honour to umunneochi.

He commended the zeal, courage, determination, and discipline displayed by both the players and the management team, describing them as worthy ambassadors of Umunneochi.
The Mayor urged the players to remain focused, resilient, and committed to pursuing successful careers in football.
The Mayor also praised the sponsor of the competition, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, for meaningfully engaging youths from Isuikwuato and Umunneochi through sports.
Mayor Afurobi pointed out that the selection of several players from the tournament for trials with Enyimba FC whose chairman and Ex Super Eagles player Kanu Nwamkwo attended the event was a positive development that could create opportunities for the players, their families, and the wider society, which aligns with the core objectives of the tournament.
The Council Boss noted that Abia State is blessed with leaders who are passionate about youth development, citing Governor Alex Otti’s TechRise programmes and the recently concluded Governor’s Cup competition as such commendable initiatives aimed at empowering young people and nurturing their talents.
He used the occasion to announce plans to organize secondary school games and autonomous communities football competition in Umunneochi as part of his administration’s talent hunt and development agenda.
To those end, Chief Afurobi directed the coaching crew of Amuda Logu FC to partner with the local government in achieving this vision.
Presenting the trophy to the Mayor, the coach of Amuda Logu FC, Mr. Increase Obum, said the team deemed it necessary to visit and honour the Mayor following his contribution to their success, describing him as a football-loving leader.
Coach Obum noted that the Mayor’s encouragement and goodwill messages before the final match contributed significantly to the team’s success.
He also expressed gratitude to Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah for his commitment to youth development through sports and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon him.
In a vote of thanks, the Councillor representing Amuda Ward and a member of the club’s management, Hon. David Mba, congratulated the team on their outstanding achievement and appreciated Mayor Afurobi for his financial assistance to the team.
Recall, Amuda FC emerged champions of the tournament after defeating Isiala Ward 3 FC isuikwuato by 2–1 in the final match, earning the first prize of ₦2.5 million.
Isiala Ward 3 FC received ₦1.5 million as runners-up, while Umuanyi/ABSU Ward, which defeated Ezi Ngodo Ward in the third-place match, received ₦1 million.
The trophy presentation ceremony featured colourful traditional dances and acrobatic displays by members and supporters of Logu FC in celebration of their historic victory.
