Democracy Activist and Sports Ambassador (Boxing), Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, has commended Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti for choosing Dr Mrs Ezinne Benjamin Kalu, the wife of the Deputy Speaker House to chair the Board of Abia State University Teaching Hospital.
A release by Mazi Okoronkwo described Governor Alex Otti’s appointment of the wife of the Top APC member, as a true demonstration of active democracy that places collective interest above individual and partisan considerations.
The Ex-International Boxer noted that what Nigeria needs now is not a focus on party affiliation, but on what individuals can contribute to national development, especially in the South-East that is grappling with marginalization and underdevelopment.
“The move reflects leadership grounded in merit and inclusivity, and should serve as a model for governance across the country,” the Sports Ambassador pointed out.
While stressing the importance of collaborative development efforts by Governors in South-East, he particularly lauded Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State who through the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, has created a platform for grassroots boxing development across both Enugu and Abia States, irrespective of party affiliations.
