The three-day Free Medical and Surgical Outreach sponsored by the Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, in collaboration with the Ibe Okwara Foundation and the Abia State Ministry of Health, has concluded successfully after delivering comprehensive healthcare services to thousands of residents across the constituency.

The outreach, which ran from Tuesday, July 14 to Thursday, July 16, 2026, was conducted simultaneously at six Primary Health Centres in Ohafia and Arochukwu Local Government Areas, with specialised surgical services provided at Ania Primary Health Centre, Akanu, and Ndioji Abam Primary Health Centre, Abam.
More than 80 healthcare professionals, comprising consultant physicians, surgeons, medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and optometrists, participated in the heartwarming exercise that featured free medical consultations, laboratory investigations, prescription medications, eye screening and treatment, medicated glasses, health education and counselling, as well as a wide range of surgical procedures, including hernia repairs and other minor surgeries.

Speaking on Thursday 16th July, 2026 at Ohafia LGA after supervising activities at Ania Primary Health Centre, Dr. Agu Francis Uchenna of the State Ministry of Health described the programme as one of the largest community-based healthcare interventions ever undertaken simultaneously in the constituency.

“This is a massive intervention driven by genuine love for the people. We have doctors, surgeons, nurses, optometrists and other healthcare professionals working across six centres at the same time to ensure that residents receive quality healthcare completely free of charge.

“The Ministry of Health is pleased to partner in this initiative because it meets the highest standards of quality and patient safety,” he said.
Dr. Agu commended Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa for investing in the health and wellbeing of his constituents, noting that the outreach was made possible through the approval and support of the Abia State Ministry of Health.
He also applauded Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for transforming primary healthcare facilities across the state through the construction and equipping of modern Primary Health Centres.

“The upgraded facilities provided by the Governor made it possible for surgical procedures to be carried out safely at the primary healthcare level.
This demonstrates the remarkable progress the state has made in strengthening healthcare delivery,” he added.
Also speaking, the Director of Public Health, Abia State Ministry of Health, Dr. Agbonma Princess Orieji described the outreach as a well-coordinated and professionally executed intervention that complied with the Ministry’s quality assurance standards.

“Our responsibility was to provide oversight and ensure that only qualified healthcare professionals handled patients throughout the outreach.
“We are satisfied with the level of professionalism displayed and the quality of services rendered,” she stated.
Dr. Orieji further commended Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa for his humanitarian commitment to improving access to healthcare, particularly for vulnerable residents who may not have been able to afford treatment.
She also expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for Health for granting approval and providing the institutional support that ensured the successful implementation of the programme.

Some of the beneficiaries which include Mr. Felix Uma Orji and Mrs. Kalu Gladys Ikeogu expressed gratitude to Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa for what they described as a timely and life-changing intervention, noting that the outreach not only eased their financial burden but also restored hope to many families through access to quality medical and surgical care.
