The battle for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), between Stakeholders in the party, particular among the Pro and Anti Wike groups may lead to the final decimation of the party that once touted itself as the largest in Africa as acrimony arising from who is the right person to serve as the party’s National Secretary deepens.
In what seems to be direct confrontation this time, the Senator Adolf Wabara led Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP has rejected the cancellation of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), meeting scheduled for Monday, 30 June, 2025 by the National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagum.
Senator Wabara in a statement issued this Thursday, 26/6/25 condemned the pronouncements made by the National Chairman, Damagum, on happenings within the party, describing it as a gross violation of constitutional order.
The BOT Chairman made it clear that the directives by Damagum purporting to cancel the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled to hold on Monday, 30th June, 2025 and directing Senator Samuel Anyanwu to resume as National Secretary of the Party are null and void.
While insisting that the National Chairman can not override the decisions of the National Executive Committee (NEC) at its 99th NEC meeting held on Tuesday, 27th May, 2025, he pointed out that any attempt by Damagum to do so contrary to what the NEC agreed is a gross abuse of office and therefore, directed that the NEC meeting scheduled for Monday, 30th June, would proceed as planned.
The BOT Chairman who asserted that the Deputy National Secretary, Arc. Setonji Koshoedo remains the Acting National Secretary of the PDP, however, warned party members to resist any attempt to drag the party into an avoidable crisis.
