There are indications that the people of Umunneochi State constituency will in the next two years continue enjoying unending flow of democracy dividend from their representative at the Abia State House of Assembly as has been the case in the first half of his service.
Briefing Newsmen on his 2 years in office as a member of the 8th Abia House of Assembly, the Deputy Majority Leader and member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Mr Mathias Ume said his constituents will witness a more robust representation in the days ahead.
While recalling the journey so far, Mr Umeh noted that he has through motions, bills and other engagements as well as working effectively and harmoniously with his colleagues brought to the front burner the issue of insecurity that almost ruined the life of his people, leading to the birth of Operations Crush and reduction in crime, rehabilitation of some critical roads and other infrastructure and public facilities in Umunneochi.
According to him, in keeping with his campaign promise, he inaugurated the Umunneochi Constituency Project Committee to oversee the implementation of his constituency projects which has seen the Nneato Secondary School block, Ebelebe, already completed and commissioned, the annual bursary awards to students of tertiarry institutions, award of full scholarship to some secondary school students and payment of WAEC, NECO and junior WAEC registration fees for some schools in his constituency aim at deepening education and youth development its pride of place.
The Deputy Majority Leader who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Budget and Planning, Sustainable Development Goals and Multilaterals observed with delight the growing interest of the people in one of his recent motions on the approval of paternity leave for Male civil and public servants whose wife put to birth and described the motion as family friendly.
On his future plans for the people the impactful Legislator stated:
“To build on my current achievements and deliver even greater value to Umunneochi we hope to consider the following strategic improvements across key areas:
1. Deepen Education & Youth Development
Sustain & expand scholarship programs by increasing the number of beneficiaries, and including postgraduate students or vocational trainees.
Push for sustainable rural electrification and water supply projects to improve quality of life in remote communities.
Increase surveillance and sustenance of our constituency infrastructure tracking to transparently show project progress and timelines.
Lobby for federal projects: Engage Abia’s federal lawmakers and agencies to attract larger-scale road and utility projects to Umunneochi.
Enhance Healthcare Access:
Mental health and addiction awareness: Lead community programs addressing rising concerns among youth.
Strengthen Security & Community Engagement:
Host regular town hall meetings across all wards to increase community participation and trust.
Sponsor more constituency-specific bills and motions.
Track implementation of government policies at the constituency level, especially those related to SDGs and infrastructure.
Collaborate with other legislators from neighboring LGAs for joint development initiatives.”
Mr Umeh used the forum to appreciate the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti for his collaborative efforts in bringing peace, security and development to his constituency and lauded the people for the opportunity to serve and other elected officials and government appointees from Umunneochi for forming a united front now working well for the people.
He therefore urged his constituents and all Abians to sustain their support for the leadership of Dr. Alex Otti in the state for greater services.
