In what appears to look like playing neutrality in the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a few moments after the factional acting chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed assumed office this Monday (3/11/25), security operatives have sealed off both the party’s National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza and the Legacy House in Abuja.
Reports from Nigeria’s Capital, Abuja, say heavily armed police officers who stormed the Wadata Plaza headquarters in the early hours of the day, ordered staff and journalists to vacate the premises before locking the gates and taking strategic positions around the building.
According to further reports, another detachment of security personnel later sealed off the Legacy House in Maitama, headquarters of the PDP’s National Convention Organising Committee, consequently halting all operations at the two major centres of the umbrella party.
Journalists who visited the Legacy House were turned back by policemen and told that their presence is as a result of “orders from above”.
Mohammed’s takeover, reportedly was backed by members of a bloc within the NWC loyal to a former Rivers Governor who were suspended by the faction backed by the PDPGovernors.
Speaking with Hanto Daily News, loyalists of Umar Damagum led NWC group, described the emergence of Mohammed as an illegal coup .
Meanwhile, PDP staff at the national secretariat have staged a walkout, expressing frustration over the crisis and vowed not to return to work until clarity was restored.
The workers, carrying placards, described the situation as “total confusion”.
In order to ensure the total takeover of the administrative machinery of the party, loyalists from both factions have been holding separate emergency meetings at undisclosed locations in Abuja.
Many analysts see the present situation as what may lead to the final destruction of the once acclaimed largest party in black Africa.
