Ochi 1 begins final journey 26 December as Isuochi slates three days for funeral activities

The final journey of respect of the body of the revered Traditional Ruler of Isuochi ancient kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Eze Sir Dr Godson Irononso Ezekwesiri ( Ochi 1) will commence on 26 December 2025, with the remains moving across the nine towns of Isuochi.

According to the burial planning committee the solemn your will moves through Achara, Lomara, Ngodo, Mbala, Umuaku, Amuda, Ndiawa, Ihie, and Umuelem.

According to the plans, at each market square, nine cannon shots will be released to salute the legendary number one Isuochi citizen, while the President General of each town will deliver farewell speech.

Late Eze Sir Dr Ezekwesiri’s body will be received at the Umunneochi Local Government headquarters by the Executive Mayor, Chief Sunny Afurobi, alongside the Umunneochi Traditional Rulers’ Advisory Council.

The 26 December activities will be rounded off at Isuochi Unity Square, Nkwoagu, where an all-night wake of songs and tributes will hold.

As the plans reveal, Distinguished Abia’s and Nigerians as well as all Indigenes of Isuochi ancient kingdom will on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the ancient kingdom of Isuochi will converge on Isuochi Unity Square, Nkwoagu, for their last respects to the Ochi 1 of Isuochi in funeral service.

His remains will be interred in his hometown, Umuelem Isuochi after the funeral service.

A thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday 28 December at Methodist Church Nigeria, Umuelem.

To accord the fallen Hero the desired ultimate respect, no activities will take place in any town of Isuochi during these three sacred days.

Aged 88 years ago, Eze Ezekwesiri who resigned 61 years, ascended the throne in May 1974 and was formally recognized in 1976 as the pioneer paramount ruler of Isuochi Ancient Kingdom and his Leadership has brought unity and harmony with the attendant development that has transformed the fortunes of Isuochi.

While on the throne, Eze Sir Ezekwesiri served as Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Advisory Councils of both Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Local Government Areas, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Abia State Council of Ndi Eze, Executive Member of the Southeast Traditional Rulers Council, and a Member of the National Council of Traditional Rulers.

In the old Imo State, he served as a member of the Council of Ndi Eze (1979–1991), the Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, the Airport Appeal Fund Committee, and the Imo State University Relocation Committee.

As devoted Christian, the Methodist Church Nigeria honoured him with the distinguished title of Knight of John Wesley (KJW), recognizing his integrity and devotion.
