Investigate reports alleging collapse and hospitalization of Akpabio – Senate directs NSA

Worried by the consequences of such unprofessional and unpatriotic actions, Nigeria’s Senate has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to immediately investigate fake reports circulating about the health of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

The decision followed resolution adopted this Tuesday (16/12/25) during plenary via a point of order raised by the Senator representing Venue North West Zone, Senator Titus Zam, who drew attention to the reports on media platforms alleging that Akpabio suffered a health emergency and was rushed to a hospital in London.

Senator Zam while describing the misinformation as unacceptable, called for those responsible to be identified and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

Responding while presiding over the plenary, Akpabio lamented the growing difficulty in regulating media content, particularly reports concerning politicians, and described some publications on online platforms as “garbage in, garbage out,” highlighting the difficulty in curbing falsehoods.

Recall, there were recent online rumors alleging Akpabio’s collapse and hospitalization, which his aides firmly described as “fake news.”
