The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Gubernatorial Candidate for the 2027 Governorship election in Abia state, Dr Kelechi Anosike says no society can achieve lasting prosperity when its people go to bed hungry.

Dr Anosike in a message to Abia Farmers to mark the 2026 world Food Day made it clear that Agriculture must be treated not merely as an economic activity, but as a strategic instrument for food security, job creation, poverty reduction and wealth generation.
The Governorship hopeful pointed out that government must do more than encourage farmers with words by providing access to affordable farm inputs, improved seedlings, mechanisation, irrigation, agricultural loans, storage facilities, processing industries and reliable markets for farm produce.
Today, as we commemorate World Food Day, I celebrate the hardworking farmers of Abia State and Nigeria, whose sweat, sacrifice and dedication sustain our families, communities and nation.
While emphasizing that food is not a luxury but a basic human necessity, he assured that if elected, agriculture will become a major driver of economic growth, rural development and employment for our youths.
“Our farmers must earn better incomes, our traders must have access to affordable food supplies, and our households must enjoy food security.
“That is why we launched OFA (Operation Feed Abians), a Back-to-Farm policy designed to ensure that there is food everywhere and no Abian goes to bed hungry.
“Through OFA, we seek to promote agricultural production, empower farmers, encourage our youths to embrace agriculture, strengthen food supply chains and make food more accessible and affordable for every household,” Dr Anosike noted.
The PDP Guber Candidate also pledged to work towards an Abia where farming is profitable, rural communities prosper, agricultural businesses flourish, and no Abian is abandoned to hunger because of poverty.
He appreciated farmers, food processors, transporters, traders and everyone for their contributions in putting food on the peoples’ tables.
As he observed: “A government that cares must feed its people, empower its farmers and create prosperity from the soil.”
He ended by declaring in Igo language: “ARUO UZO, ARUO AFỌ!”, ( As the roads are constructed/ rehabilitated, the stomach must also be fed).
