As teachers across the world mark World Teachers’ Day, the Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Due Process, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, has described teachers as critical partners in the development of every society.
Dr Chukwu, who is also the founder of The Oluebube A. Chukwu Foundation (OACF), while celebrating educators for their role in shaping the lives of young people and building the foundation for societal development noted that efforts to improve education must extend beyond infrastructure to include the welfare, motivation and professional development of educators.
He therefore extended his appreciation to teachers for their commitment, patience and sacrifices, particularly, those working in communities where educational resources remain limited.
The founder of OACF further pointed out the contribution of teachers goes beyond classroom instruction, stressing that they help shape the character, discipline, confidence and aspirations of the next generation.
To this end, Dr Chukwu called for sustained attention to teachers’ welfare, better working conditions, access to teaching resources and continuous professional development, stressing that quality education cannot be achieved without motivated and adequately supported educators.
According to him, investing in teachers is ultimately an investment in the future of Abia and Nigeria because every profession and sector depends on the quality of education received by those who will eventually take responsibility for society.
He congratulated teachers on their special day and urged them to remain committed to the noble responsibility of raising knowledgeable, responsible and productive citizens.
Dr Chukwu’s position reflects the activities of the foundation, which has made educational support one of its core areas of intervention since its establishment in 2023, via academic scholarships, educational support and leadership development among its programmes aimed at creating opportunities for young people, particularly those from underserved communities.
Recall, the foundation has, over time, supported pupils and students with scholarships and learning materials. In January 2024, it provided educational support and scholarship awards to pupils and students from schools in Umunneochi Local Government Area, while it also conducted a back-to-school outreach to three rural schools in the area later that year.
In November 2025, OACF further donated teaching and learning materials to two schools in Amuda Isuochi, fulfilling earlier commitments made to the institutions. The items included a desktop computer, 200 customised exercise books, support for graduation gowns, flat-screen televisions and playground equipment. A teacher who spoke during the exercise described the intervention as timely and impactful.
Dr Chukwu in demonstrating clear interest in promoting reading and literacy among young people, I June 2025, through his foundation supported the publication of The Water School, a children’s book, and purchased 400 additional copies for free distribution to schoolchildren across Abia State as part of its planned school tour.
Also at a graduation ceremony in Amuda in July 2025, Chukwu also unveiled an endowment fund intended to provide long-term educational support to academically outstanding but financially disadvantaged students. He described education as a powerful instrument for transforming society and emphasised the need to equip children for the future.
Apart from these, his engagement with students has equally included mentorship and encouragement. During a 2024 interaction with the Federation of Umunneochi Students, Abia State University chapter, Chukwu described education and personal development as critical to societal transformation and urged students to remain focused on their academic goals and develop skills that would enable them contribute solutions to society.
