The Abia State Government is to host the 2026 edition of World Igbo Day slated to take place on September 28 and 29.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who made the announcement while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s State Executive council meeting on Monday explained that the event which has its theme as “Njikọ Aka” has many activities lined up to mark it.
They include: a keynote lecture titled “Igbo Charter and the Development of Alaigbo,” the laying of wreaths in honour of fallen Igbo heroes and heroines, an interdenominational church service, a march-past by participating state delegations, traditional dances,
According to him, the memorable occasion will also feature speeches by South-East Governors and notable Igbo leaders.
The Commissioner pointed out that the event would provide a platform for Ndigbo to come together and reflect on their unity of purpose, shared identity and contributions to the development of Alaigbo.
