The Executive Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, has assured that the ongoing multimillion-naira Piggery Farm Project located at Umuehihie, Amuda Isuochi, will be completed and commissioned within the next few weeks.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the project, Chief Afurobi pointed out that all the materials needed for the project are already on site and expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work .

The Mayor disclosed that the state-of-the-art Piggery Farm will comprise several key facilities, including a standard feed mill, a solar-powered water borehole, an administrative block, a security post, piglet houses, modern pig pens, and other supporting infrastructure.
According to him, the agricultural hub will also accommodate a goat farm, guinea fowl farm, grasscutter farm, maggot production unit, and other livestock-related ventures.
He appreciated the landowners who willingly released their land for the project and urged other communities to emulate such sacrifices in the interest of sustainable development.
Chief Afurobi made it clear that the project is designed to create employment opportunities, boost food security, and provide alternative sources of quality meat for residents of the local government area and encouraged the people to take advantage of the enormous opportunities the project will offer.
He noted that the Piggery Farm will also serve as an empowerment centre for unemployed youths and other interested residents, adding that beneficiaries will receive free training in modern pig farming and feed production, while successful trainees will be provided with starter packs, including pigs and other essential materials, to establish their own farms and become self-reliant.
The Mayor further disclosed that modern pig slaughterhouses would be established in strategic communities across the local government to enhance meat processing and distribution, especially in the rural areas.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent management of public funds and expressed confidence that Umunneochi would become a reference point for grassroots development by the end of his tenure.
Speaking during the inspection tour, the President General of Ngodo Town Development Union, Chief Onyekachi Eme, who described the project as historic, lauded Mayor Afurobi for initiating people-oriented projects that would leave lasting legacies for future generations.

Chief Eme noted that Ngodo Ukwu Community has also benefited immensely from the Mayor’s purposeful leadership through the establishment of a large-scale cassava farm, ongoing market development, and the proposed Cassava Processing Plant, for which land has already been donated and prayed for God’s continued guidance and protection upon the Mayor.
In his speech, the Councillor representing Amuda Ward, Hon. Ezinwa David Mba, expressed delight that the long-envisioned Piggery Farm has become a reality and assured the Mayor of the continued support and solidarity of the people of Amuda.
