Worshippers abducted over two months ago during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, crusade in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have finally regained their freedom.
However 14 out of 15 people kidnapped returned alive while one person is reported to have died in Captivity.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert covering the Lake Chad region who made the disclosure in a statement, said the victims were released around midnight on Friday, July 3, 2026.
According to the report they have since been taken to a hospital, where they are receiving medical attention and undergoing evaluation following their critical physical and emotional condition.
Recall, the 15 worshippers were abducted on April 28, 2026, when suspected gunmen reportedly attacked an open-air crusade organised by the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, killing the officiating pastor.
Meanwhile, no official statements have been issued by the Ekiti State government and security agencies regarding the release of the victims.
