The African Democratic Congress, ADC, made a strategic decision in the choice of its Gubernatorial Candidate in Rivers State for the 2027 governorship election as it nominated an Ogoni man, Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, to go for the battle on the party’s platform.
Pidomson who served as SSG under the administration of Sir Celestine Omehia, polled a total of 112,068 votes to defeat other aspirants.
Announcing the results after collation at its Port Harcourt Secretariat, the Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee in Rivers State, Carol Obaro, said that Sekonte Davies scored 16,872 votes; Farah Dagogo – 2,369 votes Leloonu Nwibubasa – 1,476 votes; Henry Ogbonna – polled 546 votes and Allen Ezekiel Hart – 268 votes.
The Former SSG who hails from Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State is said to be the preferred candidate of former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of the party’s primary.
Hanto Daily News reports that Pidomson is not new to Rivers politics, having represented Gokana Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2007.
Coming on the heels of the nomination by APC of Kingsley Chinda, an Ikwerre Indigene from the same Obi Akpor LGA where FCT Minister , Nyesom Wike hails from, Pidomson’s choice is seen as a direct invitation to the Ogoni Nation to join ADC in making one their own occupy the position for the first time in the history of Rivers State.
