Visit To Schools Intensifies As Next Edition of Speaker Enugu House of Assembly Boxing Tournament Nears

Preparations for the upcoming edition of Rt Hon speaker Enugu House of Assembly Grassroots Boxing Talent Hunt Project is garnering momentum with visits to different local government areas.

The Grassroots Boxing Talent Hunt for the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State which is being organized in collaboration with the State chapter of SLGON and the State government has seen the coordinator and boxing Ambassador, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo moving from one school to another.

At Eha-mufu and Ikem in Isi Uzor LGA, those discovered include: Nnamani Johnpaul Chidindu, Ogbodo Emmanuel Akachukwu Ogor, Chinwendu Blessing Ogor and Clinton Edeh.

Others discovered at Neke and Mbu are: Ani Ruth Chijindu and Okeze Emmanuel Oguguo, Egbuagu Victor Chidera, and Ugwueze Esther Favour.

Moving to Igboeze South LGA, three outstanding student boxers from Community Secondary School, Ihakpu-Awka including: Eze Godwin Chisom, Eze Jacinta Kosisochukwu and Onah Miracle Obinna were selected for further training to represent the Local Government Area.

In Nkanu West LGA, 17-year-old Victor Egbo who is expected to turn professional at 18 was given the nod to represent his council.

Speaking on behalf of the Action Committee on Sports Literacy Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo disclosed that the selections were conducted in line with international safety standards

Mazi Okoronkwo commended the quality leadership of the Chairmen of Local Government Councils in the State for their support and interest and assured that the aim of the tournament must be realized.

Some of the school authorities and students who spoke to Hanto Daily News thanked the Governor and the speaker of the House of Assembly as well the committee for the effort

Reports indicate that registration, training and land screening will continue across the remaining LGAs until May 15, 2026.
