Kidnap of Students Travelling for UTME is Not Only Heartbreaking but an Indictment on FG – Obi

Following that abduction of 14 candidates travelling for the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation (JAMB) examination in Benue State, an African Democratic Congress Chieftain, Peter Obi has described the development as heartbreaking and an indictment on the leadership of the country.

Obi who spoke via his X handle, said, “just heartbreaking but a damning indictment of the failure of leadership and the collapse of security in our nation.”

The Students were travelling for their UTME computer based Examination late Wednesday for their exam on Thursday when they were kidnapped by the gunmen

Reacting to the claim by the Police in the state, that there is a possibility that the students on board the state-owned Benue Links had travelled outside an approved time, Obi pointed out that it is unfortunate that young Nigerians striving for an education are being met with terror.

He therefore warned that the country cannot continue to operate in such a manner where those saddled with the responsibility of protecting are only preoccupied with the coming elections.

“This is no longer an isolated tragedy. It is a pattern. It is a national crisis. And it demands urgent, decisive, and responsible action, not excuses, not silence, but leadership that matches the scale of the emergency this deserves.

“A nation that abandons its youth abandons its future. This cannot continue,” Obi wrote.
