Abaribe, Tambuwal, Kingibe, Umeh, Five Other Senators join ADC

The new opposition Coalition party ,the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally received a major boost as Nine senators on Thursday announced their defection from their various parties to the growing force.

According to the announcement read out by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, the defectors are: Five from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), three from the Labour Party (LP), and one from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

The Senators that left the Umbrella party, PDP, include: Senators Dauda Yaroe, Lawal Usman, Ogochi Onawe, Aminu Tambuwal and Austin Akubondu.

The defectors from the LP are Senators Ireti Kingibe, Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye.

While Eight of the senators who dumped the PDP and LP cited leadership crises in their parties for their defection, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe explained that he dumped APGA because the party sacked him in September 2025.
