In what could be described as unexpected decision in this era of bandwagon politics, a renowned founder of Sports Academy, Prince Ikechukwu Apugo, has dumped the All Progressives Congress APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Addressing his supporters from Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South and ADC faithful on Wednesday at his residence, Apugo who also declared his intention to run for the seat of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, cited the marginalization of Igbo the as his major reason for dumping the broom Party.

Prince Apugo described the APC as anti-Igbo, pointing out that he has worked for the success of the party in the South-East but regretted that the party has not impacted on the Igbo.
”The APC has not given the Igbo hope since coming on board in 2015. I have worked tirelessly for the party in the South-East but there is no commensurate reward for people who have stood tall for the party in the South-East even in the face of criticisms from people of the zone,” he asserted.
He made it clear that while the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari lasted, Igbo s were relegated and argued that the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has even worsened the situation.

Prince Apugo blamed this systematic marginalization as being responsible for the absence of a Seaport in the zone, which has made business transaction very difficult for the people.
He further accused APC of marginalizing Igbos in the composition of the leadership of the Party, querrying how many Igbos are holding portfolios in the National Working Committee of the APC.
While pointing out that his quest to be more relevant to his constituents and better their lots, informed his decision to ditch the APC, Prince Apugo believed that the ADC is a party that has huge plans for Ndigbo.

Speaking on behalf of the party’s leadership, the Chairmen of the African Democratic Congress in Umuahia South, Ikwuano and Umuahia North, Chief Ogbonna Kingsley, Chibuike Emmanuel and Emma Emenike, lauded Prince Apugo for taking the bold step and assured him of seamless integration and their support to his ambition.
In their remarks, Victor Nwazue, Glory Lawrence, and a representative of the youth population commended Prince Apugo for declaring to run for the seat of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency and expressed optimism that he is a square peg in a round hole.
