New IGP Emerges as Presidency explains Egbetokun’s sudden resignation.

As Nigerians contintinue to analyze the sudden resignation of the Inspector General of Police IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, the presidency has confirmed the development.

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed this said the former police chief submitted his resignation letter on Monday, citing family matters that need his full attention as the reason.

But emerging sources within the Presidency disclosed Egbotokun’s resignation followed a private meeting between Egbetokun and President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday evening, where he was asked to step aside during the meeting.

The former IGP appointed Inspector-General of Police on June 19, 2023 will be succeeded by Tunji Disu, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.

Meanwhile, latest reports say that at least 29 senior police officers, including Deputy Inspectors-General of Police and Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, are set to be forced out from office following the latest development.

Among those to be forced into retirement is one of Nigeria’s finest police officers, DIG Frank Mbah who hails from Enugu State.

According to Sahara Sources within the Reporters, the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission disclosed Tuesday that the planned shake-up is part of a wider restructuring of the police leadership.
