Following the rising wave of insecurity in some parts of the State, the Edo State Government has announced the postponement of the resumption date for all public and private schools in Edo Central Senatorial zone.
Announcing the decision in a statement this Monday (12/1/26), the Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, explained that it was taken to allow the state government to address pressing exigencies and improve the welfare and safety of pupils.
Iyamu made it clear that the suspension of resumption would remain in force until further notice and urged parents, guardians and other education stakeholders within Edo Central Senatorial District to comply accordingly.
“The postponement is till further notice to enable the state to address some exigencies to improve the welfare of the pupils.
“The new date of resumption will be duly communicated to the public in due course.
“Parents, guardians, and all education stakeholders within Edo Central Senatorial District are kindly requested to take note of this development and comply accordingly,” the commissioner advised.
Recall, following upsurge in kidnapping other crimes in Edo Central, a peaceful protest held on Saturday against insecurity turned violent in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.
During the protest, demonstrators blocked a major highway to draw attention to their grievances over rising cases of kidnapping and the killing of a youth on Friday night.
According to reports, the demonstration was later hijacked by hoodlums who attacked traders at the livestock market, where goats were said to have been slaughtered and cows beaten as well as vandalizing the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, Zaiki Anthony Abumere II.
